MudLark: Music

The Potty Song

(MudLark)
Katie Henry c1999
You pee! Sometimes you pee in your diaper, sometimes in the bath tub.
Sometimes you pee on the carpet where it’s harder to clean up.
You poop! Sometimes you poop in your high chair, sometimes you poop on the floor.
But most of the time you start to poop when we’re walking out the door.
You eat! You eat green peas and raisins and grapes and carrots too,
And kernels of corn and the little black seeds in the middle of a kiwi fruit.
Somehow so early the next morning when it comes out the other end,
Somehow this treasure looks just like it did when it went in.
You scream and cry on the changing table, and you just will not lie still,
But when we turn around you smile and the fountain of youth begins.
We sigh and watch the graceful arcing and mop it up again,
And hold our breath and open the bucket and throw the diaper in.
One day you’ll learn to pee in the potty and poop in the potty too,
And your mom and dad will be so happy, they’ll be so proud of you.
We’ll have, we’ll have a potty party and we’ll all wear underwear,
And wash those diapers one last time and put that plastic bucket away,
Breathe in some of that clean, fresh air,
Dance a happy little bathroom dance and sing, and sing the potty song.
Yippee! You’re finally out of diapers. You wear underwear instead.
But, still sometimes we’re sure to find little nuggets in the bed.
